Current Challenge

Rural communities in District 11 face food deserts and limited access to healthy, affordable food options. Federal proposals threaten to cut SNAP benefits that currently serve 1.4 million North Carolinians.

Policy Solutions:

  1. Establish the “Abundant Life Nutrition Program” combining policy advocacy with community-based solutions.
  2. Support mobile food markets serving rural areas, community gardens on church and school grounds, and nutrition education programs.
  3. Advocate for state funding to protect SNAP benefits if federal cuts occur.
  4. Launch a regional food equity task force to combat food deserts.
  5. Champion policies supporting local food systems and farmers markets accepting SNAP benefits.
  6. Partner with churches to address food insecurity through expanded food pantries, community kitchens, and nutrition education programs rooted in biblical principles of caring for the hungry.
