Current Challenge:

Rural areas in District 11 lack adequate broadband infrastructure, creating barriers to education, healthcare, and economic opportunity. The digital divide disproportionately affects African-American families and rural communities.

Policy Solutions:

  1. Champion the “Digital Dignity Act” ensuring every household in District 11 has access to affordable high-speed internet by 2030.
  2. Leverage existing state broadband grants (Nash County already receiving Cloudwyze expansion, Franklin County’s $50 million Brightspeed investment) to maximize coverage.
  3. Create public-private partnerships with local churches and community centers to serve as digital access points.
  4. Advocate for digital literacy programs integrated with workforce training, ensuring seniors and underserved communities aren’t left behind.
  5. Enable telehealth access for Vance County residents (currently ranking 95th out of 100 in health outcomes).
  6. Support remote work opportunities, and ensure students can access online learning resources.
